Udon Thani Airport is located some seven kilometers from Udon Thani near the northern boarder with Laos. It has domestic flights to Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The only simple way to get to Udon Thani is by air. There are seven daily flights from Bangkok to Udon Thani. It is a one hour flight.
After arrival, the means of transport to town is by minibuses, that have a capacity of eighty passengers. The buses drop each and every person to his or her hotel, apartment or any other destination. If you are traveling with a partner, the cheapest way of traveling will be by the use of a taxi. You can get the minibus tickets on the booths that are located on the right side just before leaving the terminal building. There are no waiting areas for taxis at the airport and therefore you have to call and wait for one when you need it. Some hotels in Udon Thani have pick up services and they sometimes schedule pick up trips for more than one travelers if the van has enough space. Moving around in Udon Thani is facilitated by buses that can be picked from the two bus stations that are located in the city center and the other on the outskirts of the town on your way towards NongKhai from Loei.
You can also travel round by the use of a train that connects Bangkok and Nong Khai on a daily basis. There is also an overnight train to Bangkok that leaves at 2125hrs although there is a delay at times. For comfort purposes, you can organize a taxi that can move you around and that will save you from the congestion experienced on buses. Other means of moving around are by bicycle taxis, motorcycle or Tuktuk which is basically a tricycle.
