Kavala Airport is known by another name as Magas Alexandros Airport and it was originally located 25 kilometers east of Kavala, but was move on 1981 to a new location near the town of Chrysoupoli. This move enhanced its operations a great deal. It only used to be served by domestic flights before it was elevated to its current international status on the year 1988.
The airport has facilities that are in the state of international standards. This is to say that its navigational-electronic aids and all other facilities that the passengers require in an airport are in place and functional. There are cafeterias and restaurants that you can buy some refreshments or food before you leave the airport to the city or fly out.
When you are departing, you are supposed to be at the airport ninety minutes before the departure time. You are advised not to leave your luggage unattended in the terminal building. The facility has an emergency department where you are supposed to report in case you need any emergency medical assistance. For communications purposes, there is a post box inside the terminal and collections of the mails is done once in a week. You can also use the public telephones that are located at several points in the terminal. The communication sections caters for the disabled also because some card phones are placed low to allow access by wheelchair.
Transport to and from the airport is by private means, car hire or taxis. Buses do not operate from the airport. Taxis can be taken from outside the airport and it will take you about 15 minutes to get to the city. If you are using a private car, you can park it in the parking areas where there are long and short-term services and the section is well secured.
