Harare is Zimbabwe’s capital. Harare is a major city for trading tobacco, corn, cotton, and citrus. The climate is a subtropical highland. Thus, it is warm throughout the year. If you are travelling during the fall and winter months, bring shorts or pants, t-shirt, a light blouse, and possibly an umbrella. You can get around the city through buses, or what is commonly called commuter omnibuses and minibuses. Or, you can get through the city through car. But, the roads are somewhat underdeveloped. During your trip, you can visit many interesting sites in Harare. The National Museum of Zimbabwe is located in Harare. It was built to preserve and present Zimbabwean visual art and contemporary art. The “National Gallery of Rhodesia” directed and created by Frank McEwen was uncovered by Queen Elizabeth II. You could also see the Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences. The major institution is the University of Zimbabwe, which was built in 1952. The National Archives is where journals, diaries, reports, and notebooks of Rhodesians and Africans are held. The original archives are a part of the greatest names in the country. If you are into live music, there is the Book Cafe is a great place to hear various artists. The country’s currency is the American dollar. Harare has a lot of fun restaurants and eateries that serve good European and American food. Some which are more fun are the outdoor cafes.
Harare’s International Airport has a few major airlines coming to its airport because of the major political conficts within the country. Be sure to bring your passport, visa, and your driver’s license (if you are renting a car). If you are staying in a hotel, like Holiday Inn, you can arrange for the hotel van to pick you up from the airport.
