Brno is the Czech Republic’s second largest city. The city is the historical capital of the Margraviate of Moravia. Brno has over 800,000 people living in its metropolitan area. Brno is the center of the Czech Republic’s justice system. Brno has the Czech Republics Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, and the Supreme Administrative Court. Government buildings are located in Brno. Brno also has thirteen universities in the area.
Brno was founded early in the eleventh century by the non-ruling Prince from the House of Premyslid as a castle. Later, a chapel was founded in Brno, which resulted in the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, a Gothic Catholic church. In the thirteenth century, Spilberk Castle was founded, and was known as the foremost royal castle in Moravia. The King of Poland granted large and small city privileges to Brno in 1243. Later, in the mid 17th century, Brno was the only capital of Moravia. In 1924, Brno was the capital city of Moravia. When communism existed in Czechoslovakia, during the late 1940s, Brno stopped serving as Moravia’s capital city. Currently, Brno is the South Moravian Region’s seat of Regional Authority. Brno is known as a trade city. It is located at the crossroads of old trade routes that have attached northern and southern European cultures and civilizations for many years.
Brno is known as one of the most cleanest cities in the world. Many rivers and lakes exist throughout the city. Brno’s climate is relatively cold in the winter, and seemingly warm in the summer. It depends when you book your date of travel the clothes that you wear. However, if you are going in peak season, April through September, you need to wear a jacket, t-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.
