Over 21,000 years ago, Canberra was inhabited by indigenous people. Evidence included rock paintings, rock shelters, engravings and burial sites. The Europeans established a site in Canberra during the 1820s, eventually settling in 1824. Joshua John Moore purchased land in the area in 1826 and called the area “Canberry.”

Canberra Art Museum is a free museum and art gallery, which features pieces and works of art of Australians. Another place for you to see is the Australian War Memorial, which provides a tribute to those who fought in wars in Australia.
