Car Hire Marseille Train station
The Marseille train station still bears the allure of the romantic days of the railway, in the tales we read. It is also your key entry point to the town with the same name, just in case you cannot secure a plane ticket to the city or you are en route from another city in France.
Marseille is known locally as Masalia and is voted as the second largest town in the whole of France after Paris. So if you have already have a car rental trip around Paris, it is time you saw what this great town, with a population of over 800,000 people, has to offer.
Attractions
At the train station, there are plenty of car hire companies ready to be at your service. There are fleets of cars, from which to choose from and subsidized rental packages just to take care of your financial pocket. Marseille is well explored if you are driving yourself, and here are some of the great attractions the town boasts of.
- Chateau d’If - the Great Island in which the count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantes, was held prisoner. But as that story was a fictional tale, the Island is not. Chateu d’If is one of the small islands off the coast of Marseille. It has nothing growing and only bears a fortress that was built during the reign of King Francois.
- Les Calanques - you will park your Marseille Train Station rental at the old ports before taking a boat ride to the Calanques. This area is best ventured in shorts and trainers with good traction. There is a 3km trail on which you can hike on and discover more about the rocky terrains.
- Vieux Port - this is the oldest port in town and from it, this great city of Marseilles was built. The port dates to 2600 years back in which it served both as a military and commercial harbor. Today, however, it does not dock any major ferries as these were moved to a newer port. Vieux port, however, was still kept open for pleasure boats come dock. You can call it the Port of Love as it is the kind of place you would spend an evening with a spouse marveling at the boats and also enjoying the evening sunset.
- Longchamp Palace - locally it is known as Palais Longchamp and the fountains constructed inside are to die-for! And don’t let the Palace name dupe you, this is just a monument that demonstrates how important water is to the Marseille people.
